The
HOME OF PEACE Cemetery and EMANU-EL Mausoleum in Colma, CA, USA
In the mid-1890's the city of San Francisco was running out of land for building, so they ordered all cemeteries within the city boundaries closed, and moved to the city of Colma, which is south of the city by about 20 miles. Consequently, all the remains and any possible stones from the Jewish cemeteries in the city were disinterred, and then re-interred in the Colma cemeteries. There are currently 3 Jewish cemeteries there now. Therefore, the burial dates for those who were moved, is the date of their reburial in Colma, *not* the original date for burial!

This information was compiled from a cemetery indexing project under the direction of the San Francisco Bay Area Jewish Genealogical Society (SBAJGS). The project's coordinator is Pierre M Hahn.
