| Locality | NY, NEW YORK | Size | 58 boxes + misc. | Scope | Trade School. The Baron de Hirsch Trade School in New York records span 1890-1935, under call number I-55. The school trained students in trades such as plumbing, electrical, sign painting, carpentry, and woodwork. Boxes 1-9 are graduate records. At least in box 1, these records are bound, with an index. These include: name, class and department, address, age, nationality. Some include: how long in the US, means of support, occupation, parent or guardian's name, and name of employer. Box 10 holds class pictures, by class and department, for the years 1925-1968. A number of these are labelled with the name underneath each person shown. Boxes 13, 16-18 are students files, with a good deal of useful information; there are files on applications, graduates by department, students--lists by department, students--bound record book--various statistics, etc. Boxes 21-24 hold class ratings for the years 1899-1935. Box 32 involves questionnaires sent out to alumni of 1920's classes, asking for such information as whether the graduate was working, whether working in the field in which trained, where working, etc. Boxes 36-38 hold records of workers 1892-1935.
