Included with the collection is a loose sheet with a biographical sketch of Judah Hays. Also contains a dated list of receipts for goods purchased kept by New York merchant Judah Hays until his death in 1764, and continued by his son Moses Michael Hays, also of New York. Among the creditors listed are the following Jewish names: Abraham I. Abrahams, Sarah Israel, Johan. Jacobs, Hyman Levy, Hyman Levy, jr., Myer Myers, Jonas Phillips, Myer Polock, Abraham Sarzedas, Solomon Simson, Hyam Solomons and his brother Alexander Solomons. Handwritten transcription of a receipt book found in Virginia Historical Society. Contains also a typescript of a portion of the book, until September 25, 1765. Detailed description found in "Publications of the American Jewish Historical Society, Volume XXVIII, pages 223-229. Contains letters addressed to Hays from James Rivington of New York on personal matters (1769), and from Welcome Arnold of Providence, RI, concerning insurance for a boat (1782). Also contains signed by Mayor Dewitt Clinton for payment by the City of NEw York to Hays for services rendered, and the inventory and papers pertaining to the personal estate of Jacob Hays, high constable of New York City, 1802-1849. The executors of his estate were his son, Jacob, Jr., and William Henry Hays. Several members of his family are listed as debtors to the estate. | Years | 1759-1766
