Sheftall, Mordecai. The Sheftall papers

Type / Call #Personal / P-012Contains a manuscript receipt book for the years 1761-1774, manuscript material relating to the commissarial activities of Mordecai Sheftall as Assistant Deputy Commissary General of Issues of the State of Georgia during the revolutionary campaignes in and about Savannah, the post-Revolutionary mercantile ledger of Mordecai Sheftall, continental paper money, the privateer papers of the Sheftall's Schooner Hetty and miscellaneous letters and papers of the Sheftall family, including correspondence concerning its claims against the United States, bills of sales for slaves, copies of public documents and private correspondence. An unpublished guide to the Sheftall papers prepared by the Historical Records Survey in 1941, containing transcripts or summaries of representative papers, indexes of names of persons, places and ships appearing in the papers and an appendix containing transcripts of related contemporaneous matterial from other sources, has been placed with the collection.
