Type / Call #Personal / P-159The collection contains the original manuscript notes for Beecher's sermon titled "Jew and Gentile" preached on June 24, 1877 in response to the exclusion of Joseph Seligman from the Grand Union Hotel. Also contains a typewriten copy of the sermon, correspondence relating to the gift of the notes, and materials pertaining to the efforts of Brooklyn Jews to help fund a statue in Beecher's memory (1887). The sermon itself was published in 1877 by the Christian Union Print (New York).
