Type / Call #Personal / P-207The collection contains the following items pertaining to August Belmont, Sr.: Three autograph manuscript items reflecting Belmont's financial connections with the Rothchild family (1841); an autograph letter of introduction to the firm of C.N. de Rothchild, Naples, Italy, on behlf of Charles A. Mann, former state senator of New York (1852); a letter declining an invitation (1879); and an undated letter, addressed to the President of the United States (most probably Abraham Lincoln) with 17 signatures, among whose is Belmont's recommending John Henley Highbee for a military appointment. Also included is an invitation from August Belmont, Jr., to inspect the Interborough Rapid Transit Co. subway prior to its opening for public service (1904).
