Noah, Mordecai Manuel Letters, Isaac Goldberg Collection of

Type / Call #Persoanl Papers / P-075 Box 2The collection consists of 28 letters written by Mordecai Manuel Noah to his wife, Rebecca, relating primarily to personal and family life. The letters also refer to contemporary events and mention is made of Andrew Jackson, Martin van Buren, John Tylar, James Polk, Samuel Houston, John C. Calhoun, Duff Green, Francis P. Blair, John Skinner, Samuel Swartwout, James Tallmadge, James Watson Webb, Thomas Gill, Horace Craig, Peggy Eaton, and members of the Phillips and Pesoa families.
Some of the letters have been excised.
Correspondence relating to the acquistion of the letters is also included in the collection. The letters were given to Isaac Goldberg by Mrs. Blanche M. Grandin, the widow of Noah's grandson.
