WANDER-UNTERMAN-ZILBERBERG FAMILY | |
Description | Seeking information about descendants of Shrul/Chaia ZILBERBERG of Brest Litovsk (Brisk), Russia (Belarus) and their known children - Schmul, Elke and Sarah. Elke (b. 1847) m Rabbi Yoel Wander; Sarah m. Hyman Unterman; and Schmul Izrok (Sanford) m. Laya Barenboim). Yoel Wander and Elke Zilberberg (Anna) had ten children, 9 boys and one girl. Between 1903 and 1914 Elke (Anna) and 5 sons - [Leiser (Louis), Mayor Shia (Sam), Mordechai (Max), Noah (Nathan), Abraham]- and daughter, Feiga Leeba (Lena), immigrated to the US and settled in Cincinnati and across the Ohio River in Newport and Covington, Kentucky. Anna died in 1940 at the age of 91 years. Anna's five sons and daughter, their spouses and some of their children and their spouses are buried at Agudas Israel Cemetery in Cincinnati. Schmul Izrok (Sanford) and Laya Barenboim had five known children - 3 daughters and 2 sons. The three daughters immigrated to the US and married two of Elke's sons (long story!). His son, Israel Zilberberg, immigrated to the US and joined the Wanders in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. Israel died in 1939 at the age of 51 years. He and his wife Sarah Citran (d 1933) and their two sons, Leon and Joseph, are buried at Agudas Israel Cemetery in Cincinnati. Hyman/Sarah Z. Unterman had three known children, one boy, Vavel (William), and two girls, Rose and Necha, all of whom immigrated to the US and joined the Wanders in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. |
